So, Who is Cassie?

Wife, dog mum, Business Analyst, archer, horse rider, violinist, crafter, side hustle business owner, breast cancer survivor.

How did you cross paths with Julie and Happy Side Hustle?

I completed Julie’s 5 day ‘Find your happy side hustle’ challenge in May 2020. I was furloughed from work as most of the country were and had plenty of time on my hands. An ad popped up on Facebook so I thought I would give it a try. It was free I had nothing to lose.

How did you feel when you found out about the challenge?

Excited, I have always wanted to run my own business but never had THE idea.

Why did you decide to join it?

It all fitted well as I was furloughed from work so had plenty of time and I have always wanted to run my own business. If I had seen the ad a year earlier when work was really busy I might never have signed up. Maybe it was fate.

What was your favourite part of the challenge?

I completed the challenge in May 2020 and have also been an Ambassador on the challenge several times since assisting Julie. I absolutely love it. Everyone on a Monday knows they want their own side hustle but doesn’t know what to do. The ones that follow and complete the daily tasks get the most from it. You can see them develop through the week from not having a clue, to being really excited and enthusiastic about setting up a side hustle. That evolution through the week it just magical.

What was your biggest takeaway or a-ha moment from the challenge?

Probably my main take away is that I can set up a side hustle. It’s not just something that other people do, I can do it too. Me as a normal everyday person. I can have my own business and run it how I want.

Who would benefit most from this challenge?

Anyone who has that desire to be able to have a side hustle business but is perhaps struggling with their idea. They might have lots of ideas and don’t know which to choose. Going through the week and really applying yourself to the daily tasks which don’t take long, will give you clarity on which direction you want to take your side hustle.

What is your next big goal?

My current plan is to develop my range of jewellery but also to introduce cross stitch kits which is a passion of mine that I want to share with the world.

Are you in the ‘Fast Track your Happy Side Hustle’ or ‘The Hive’?

I am in the Happy Hustle Hive and Inner Circle. It is the best place to be. The Hive is a group of fantastic side hustlers. All at different points in their side hustle journey but all very ready to help and support other people. If you ask a question in there you’ll have multiple replies in no time. The Inner Circle is a great way to get to know some of the side hustlers a little better with a weekly face to face Zoom call. Each week you set goals to be achieved by the following week. It’s a great way to be kept accountable and move your side hustle forward. But sometimes life gets in the way, and that’s OK just roll the goals over to the following week.

Did you have any experience running your own side hustle before? How did that go and what do you know now that you didn’t know then?

Around 2007 I set up a ghost hunt events company with my Mum. We ran a few events but struggled with the marketing. Everything I know now about marketing from being in Julie’s world for such a long time would have been ideal to have known at the time.

What’s your biggest tip for someone who’s considering setting up a side hustle?

Just do it! Don’t sit thinking ‘oh it’s not the right time’, ‘it’s not perfect’. When is the right time? When will it be perfect? Probably never. Set a launch date and do it! Go through Julie’s programme and you’ll have the step-by-step guide that you need to complete all the tasks necessary. It won’t be perfect when you launch. You might change your side hustle idea after a few months. It doesn’t matter. It matters that you are out there, showing up and doing it.

What’s your favourite thing about being in The Hive / Start Your Happy Side Hustle?

I am proud to class the ladies in The Hive and Inner Circle as my friends. I would never have met them if it wasn’t for the community that Julie has created.

What’s your favourite thing about your new happy side hustle?

My favourite thing is that its mine. Everything about it I own. I enjoy spending time on my side hustle and what’s even better is that I earn money from it!
