So who is Renee-Marie?

I was born on the Isle of Wight growing up by the beaches. My childhood had some dark times, but other memories were wonderful such as playing with all my cousins and Christmas gatherings with parlour games. I guess I was a bit of a loner and quite shy at school, I was bullied quite a lot too. I have moved around a lot during my life being married to a military man and being divorced which was also hard to settle or make friends with. My youngest borders on Asperger’s and we have dyslexia in the family. I now live in Kent with my partner and two Airedale terrier dogs. I have grown up children and have three gorgeous grandchildren. I have health conditions I have to manage daily with a few different things to take care of. I work full time for a London Borough in a housing role and I have my side hustles which I love, and the dream is to drop the day job.

How did you cross paths with Julie and Happy Side Hustle?

I first came across Julie and the Happy side hustles when I saw an advert for a free challenge back in July 2020 on Facebook.

How did you feel when you found out about the challenge?

I felt curious when I saw an advert on Facebook about a happy side hustle challenge. I’ve always loved crafting on and off and thought I’ve got nothing to lose as I was redundant at the time!

Why did you decide to join it?

I decided to join as I have always loved crafts and at the time, I was redundant with nothing to keep me occupied so I thought why not take a look, I have nothing to lose.

What was your favourite part of the challenge?

My favourite part of the challenge was drilling down the lists using the joy, value profit and seeing what was coming out on top.

What was your biggest takeaway or a-ha moment from the challenge?

My biggest Ah-ha moment when I knew what direction I could go in and start believing in myself.

Who would benefit most from this challenge?

Anyone that loves creating but feels nervous and who wants to learn how to stand out from the crowd and BEE seen.

What is your next big goal?

In my craft side hustle is to have a few regular craft fairs to sell at. Plus I’ve got my eye on some other products to add to what I do.

For my service based side hustle my next goal is to have a 5 day challenge later this year.

Are you in the ‘Fast Track your Happy Side Hustle’ or ‘The Hive’?

I started off Joining the Hive and then in January 2022, I conducted the ‘Fast track your happy side hustle’ and launched that one on 22 February 2022.

Did you have any experience running your own side hustle before? How did that go and what do you know now that you didn’t know then?

I had no experience of running a side hustle before, I had fundraised for charities and created things or events or games to raise money as I have permanent lung conditions and stage 1 emphysema.

What’s your biggest tip for someone who’s considering setting up a side hustle?

My biggest tip for someone setting up is to DO IT. Do not worry about it being perfect or having imposter syndrome. Done is better than perfect as Julie says, and you will always learn, evolve, and tweak as you go along. People will love what you do and be very kind, they will also give you feedback to use or testimonials.

What’s your favourite thing about being in The Hive / Start Your Happy Side Hustle?

My favourite thing in the Hive is the support. It is like no other I have ever had in my life. It is like a warm hug, everyone supports, cheers you on, answers questions or helps one another out. They are the best friends I have, and I love supporting everyone.

What’s your favourite thing about your new happy side hustle?

My favourite thing about my side hustles:

Ren’s crafty curiosities are my scrunchies and the naughty word fabrics I have got they do sell quickly at the craft fairs!
