1) Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I’m 59 – a mum to 6 and a nana to 13! I’ve been married to my soulmate for 25 years this year although this is my third attempt at wedded bliss- the first two ended up with me in intensive care and him in jail respectively.

2) How did you find out about Julie and Happy Side Hustle?

Facebook and good fortune  She was brought to me by the universe at a time when I truly needed her – and I’m a firm believer that no one is brought to you by accident.

3) Why did you decide to join the challenge?

I had been crocheting for a number of years and had this idea of launching crochet kits but it has got no further, so I needed that oomph I joined the challenge hoping it was going to give me just that!

4) How did the tasks make you feel, how was the challenge day-to-day and overall?

The tasks made me focus and made me think. I have a brain injury, so some of the thinking part of the tasks take a bit of time – but it was brilliant. It made me focus and there were many light bulb moments and doh! moments – ‘why didn’t I think of that before?’ and ‘why hadn’t I joined the dots up on my own?’.

5) Would you recommend it to others and if so, which type of person do you think would benefit/enjoy it?

O my goodness in a heartbeat. Anyone who has a hobby and they just want to see if it has legs as a micro business- this course is absolutely ideal for It just joins up all the elements and makes you realise you can do it.

6) What is your final side hustle idea?

It is crochet – for me there was never any doubt it would be crochet – I really don’t do anything else. However, not only do I now offer bespoke clothing for adults and children, I sell my own designs as patterns and I have had the confidence to launch some of my kits too!

7) What is your next immediate challenge for the next month or so and can we check back in with you to see how you are getting on?

I am working on kit number 3 and hope to get this launched by the end of April I’m also working on my Pinterest presence as this is a new platform for me altogether. And trying to get a couple more pieces in my shop, so all in all a busy month.

8) Did you join Start Your Happy Side Hustle/The Hive and if so how is that helping and how will it help in the future?

I did become part of the Hive and I love it!  Honestly it’s like having all your best friends at your beck and call at any time of the day and night and any time you need a virtual hug there is one on hand. There is so much top class knowledge in there from industry experts too – it is my first port of call if I am stuck before I hit any other search button now.

9) Have you tried to set up a side hustle before? If so, how did you get on?

Well, my husband used to make lamp work beads and do stained glass – that was his passion for years until he had a breakdown – and it was quite successful- but again in a non-focused haphazard way.  If he got commissions he was happy if not he was happy playing – he didn’t want to take it any further.

10)  Share your 3 favourite things about being in The Hive and 3 favourite things about your side hustle.

Being in the Hive

  1. The community- everyone is in there for the same reason so any win is shared and truly celebrated
  2. The knowledge- I have learnt so much and still have the opportunity to learn so much more and at my own pace too – for me that is a huge plus
  3. Friends – I feel I have made some new friends through the Hive – people I would never have met or interacted with had I not been in the Hive

My side hustle

  1. It makes me smile every day
  2. I love what I do and I love designing and bringing my designs to life
  3. I love the fact others seem to like my kits and clothes and are starting to buy them – this spurs me on to do more and set myself bigger goals each month so my side hustle will grow
